The Monadnock Building
One of my
favourite buildings is the Monadnock Building. One of the reasons I admire the
architects Burnham & Root and Holabird & Roche, is because they had the
courage to do something that was thought to be impossible. They designed the
tallest building in the world made of brick. They could put this idea into
practice only by making the walls thicker, 1.8 metres, and thus making the building
resistant enough for the strong winds. But in spite of the thick walls it is
very pleasant to the eye in my opinion due to the very large windows.
